Fastener Quality Act
PUBLIC LAW 101-592
General Overview:
The following is an outline of the Fastener Quality Act, provided only to better explain the Act to our customers. No part of this page shall be interpreted to be legally binding.
The Fastener Quality Act is intended to provide users with the assurance that the fasteners meet stated specifications. The intention is to enhance traceability, accountability, and responsibility from the manufacturer throughout the distribution chain to the end user.
The Act applies to persons selling fasteners, including manufacturers, importers, distributors, and the like, who are in the business of selling fasteners to retailers and to end users. Those persons purchasing the fasteners for their own use and businesses purchasing fasteners for use in the assembly of other products have no responsibility under the Act.
The Act makes the manufacturers, importers and distributors of fasteners assure that the fasteners they are selling are manufactured in accordance with applicable standards and specifications. These fasteners must be tested in a laboratory accredited by a competent third party organization. This assurance takes the form of a written certification of conformance, kept on file by the manufacturer, importer, distributor, or other party, which significantly alters the fastener. Fastener insignias, filed with the Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks, shall easily identify the party responsible for the fastener.
